However, I would say that by quickly looking at the above checklist that I'd have to place the Traffic Cop in the bottom half of Series 2. That's less a hit on the figure itself but more so on the fact that police officers are a dime a dozen in LEGO sets. I will say to the LEGO Company's credit, they did make the Series 2 figure look quite a bit different than the usual police officers from LEGO City sets, but even so, at the end of the day it's yet another officer and that's about it.</div><div><br /></div><div>That being said, I will admit the the traffic cop looks pretty good "in action" in my custom LEGO city.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYe_iGCp-xZ6nixb_0St2bxQECIb-sPd78Fnp6B1uT2Hhfx_U_JYmq9suDpNiW2RvgpiG7lcwkO9_bAK9JWz_eBH0OHmFtkvRgybQ2RRlaYXaxT3SBEpOjXK-G4EDIwXcnl2e_eeQIDZJgiFhLq4FNKyx1pfR8lIaI4PGWHfCqDaNo2LMTolutNjhGGvw/s4000/20240317_104855.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYe_iGCp-xZ6nixb_0St2bxQECIb-sPd78Fnp6B1uT2Hhfx_U_JYmq9suDpNiW2RvgpiG7lcwkO9_bAK9JWz_eBH0OHmFtkvRgybQ2RRlaYXaxT3SBEpOjXK-G4EDIwXcnl2e_eeQIDZJgiFhLq4FNKyx1pfR8lIaI4PGWHfCqDaNo2LMTolutNjhGGvw/w640-h480/20240317_104855.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div>Here the traffic cop is helping motorists avoid the holes in the pavement that I still haven't fully filled in. </div><div><br /></div><div>And later that same day...</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisDzFpghMgAKVqzwL2rEQ_7uSaPrTcAxWvqdfNce4XvH3g9GaugT4B3I-k3g5hBjKAlNI6SI08Aan5VBYQmsdBhGGe-ZCP9aDp8kSb_205Xf5nc4enMziA1X0NvGECWsnqMrtixo-SRDKxKf-wZQcgtQw2zjPYo-n3YOs5c6CFSkz3CRZ4cekOSjCxpUc/s4000/20240317_104930.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisDzFpghMgAKVqzwL2rEQ_7uSaPrTcAxWvqdfNce4XvH3g9GaugT4B3I-k3g5hBjKAlNI6SI08Aan5VBYQmsdBhGGe-ZCP9aDp8kSb_205Xf5nc4enMziA1X0NvGECWsnqMrtixo-SRDKxKf-wZQcgtQw2zjPYo-n3YOs5c6CFSkz3CRZ4cekOSjCxpUc/w640-h480/20240317_104930.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Is that tram going to get a ticket?!</div><div><br /></div><div>Overall, while the minfig certainly isn't the most novel, I will say that it fits into my custom LEGO city better than most of the collectible minifigures. I think that alone should raise the ranking of the Traffic Cop within the rest of his Series 2 companions. Maybe if (when?) I finally complete all of Series 2, I can do a definitive ranking of the 16 figures. Until then though, I'll let this guy issue plenty of traffic citations within my LEGO City!</div>Nachos Grandehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911007368272468591noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9131090077828384917.post-30849985011951200642024-02-24T08:00:00.004-05:002024-02-24T08:00:00.240-05:00Finishing off LEGO Collectible Minifigures: Series 4A couple of days ago, I was browsing eBay when I found the final minifigure that I needed for my Series 4 set (at a reasonable price). Of course, I think many people out there like the Viking figure as he's historically gone for fairly high prices. I definitely lucked out in getting him for something more reasonable. Even better, LEGO recently released a Viking Village set (which I received for Christmas as a gift, but have not yet built). One of my favorite things to collect are the LEGO Collectible Minifigure series. I may not have every series completed (yet?) but I do own a large chunk of the minifigs from the various collectible series (<a href="https://playingwithbricks.blogspot.com/p/collectible-minifigure-checklist-and.html" target="_blank">you can find my full collection here as well as what I'm still searching for</a>).<div><br /></div><div>Today, we are going back to Series 5 to take a look at the rather seasonally appropriate (for us in the Northern Hemisphere) Ice Fisherman:</div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBYkQA2DBw_-1eZ6LfFmZghrhsadctA_j4K1bUtNnULkCRpCuO_ZGkOyr6fNyWTOi8qA-qamV-6CgJG5hcg8EsIzR2qtqHv3my_5fb3YZnj271GjWLCAS6RB7H4tG6zB7pcyMA_cRFvA3tsIzjCI7y3E0YYiOvcdihIDGGwtTigPwDzBlygdALNvPC6og/s3693/20240118_103916.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2449" data-original-width="3693" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBYkQA2DBw_-1eZ6LfFmZghrhsadctA_j4K1bUtNnULkCRpCuO_ZGkOyr6fNyWTOi8qA-qamV-6CgJG5hcg8EsIzR2qtqHv3my_5fb3YZnj271GjWLCAS6RB7H4tG6zB7pcyMA_cRFvA3tsIzjCI7y3E0YYiOvcdihIDGGwtTigPwDzBlygdALNvPC6og/w640-h424/20240118_103916.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">With about 7" of light, fluffy snow I knew I had to take some photos of the Ice Fisherman in his natural habitat.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div><br /></div><div>The Ice Fisherman comes with a fishing pole, fishing line, and sand green fish as well as a nice arctic winter outfit. Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! Christmas Eve is always a bit bittersweet - the anticipation of Christmas is all but over, and yet, the best day is yet to come. Unfortunately for our LEGO City Advent Calendar, today is the final day...and while I do have my usual spoiler-free image to lead off today's post, I don't think there's any real surprise as to what we'll find behind the final door!<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdjkpIOyyoTGgq3MH12viwvfWLuXMbuxrqaIP4qW0icXJRFV19JoMUFH3mnO80Y_gMsFzfbgFoznTyZzu2cc9zwxf7EYUmr3ET5_mhkuhqXTonWoklfztvvChZctzrCiJRzWEnFFtAGs45ZMJvRzMHw6KlIxDLfd3EUtUNjF2budLdkGZ1risK5s1j6ug/s4000/20231224_133256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdjkpIOyyoTGgq3MH12viwvfWLuXMbuxrqaIP4qW0icXJRFV19JoMUFH3mnO80Y_gMsFzfbgFoznTyZzu2cc9zwxf7EYUmr3ET5_mhkuhqXTonWoklfztvvChZctzrCiJRzWEnFFtAGs45ZMJvRzMHw6KlIxDLfd3EUtUNjF2budLdkGZ1risK5s1j6ug/w640-h480/20231224_133256.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Door #24 gave us our usual ending to City Advent Calendars, namely, a Santa Claus figure. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-mk79u5t8lKOfVaqV8HpEx5J-VtMxBjztOI82-aLgfPzpqzEmH2Ku0AeecGUBzHqVPJlxosV4Bo3mnsa71MhTTUqUMMUcOFXYXTUyZM1thVXwcjExByoM_2WVxGZBFLIql2zmN2-A3bnoWQmxwTWbTaN6k5VeF1NsCscE9ZBNtg-F_C4a3xMHE-up3Tk/s4000/20231224_133307.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-mk79u5t8lKOfVaqV8HpEx5J-VtMxBjztOI82-aLgfPzpqzEmH2Ku0AeecGUBzHqVPJlxosV4Bo3mnsa71MhTTUqUMMUcOFXYXTUyZM1thVXwcjExByoM_2WVxGZBFLIql2zmN2-A3bnoWQmxwTWbTaN6k5VeF1NsCscE9ZBNtg-F_C4a3xMHE-up3Tk/w640-h480/20231224_133307.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>To the LEGO Company's credit, the Santa figures are usually slightly different (and/or they come with slightly different accessories) but this year's figure is rather run-of-the-mill. Of course, the LEGO City Advent Calendar quits with a door for Christmas Eve so after today we only have two more builds for this year's edition of the calendar. However, I do like getting the large turkey pieces and I think that's my first LEGO candelabra (it's a single mold piece with two flame pieces attached). On the other hand, the turkey does just sit freely on the red 2x2 tile which means it can fall off the table incredibly easily. Put it all together and you get a fairly pedestrian build but not one that's truly bad. I'm giving this one a 2.5/5. I gave my last final exam of the semester and didn't get home until late. By then, all my son wanted to do was play with our LEGO Winter Village and who am I to say no? That being said, I know he'd be a bit sad if I opened today's door without him so we'll simply try to double up tomorrow. <div><br /></div><div>With that all said, how about a sneak peek at this year's Winter Village changes! Back in November, <a href="https://playingwithbricks.blogspot.com/2023/11/christmas-comes-early-lego-winter.html" target="_blank">I posted the earliest stages of our Winter Village (see here)</a>. The scavenger hunt idea is still going strong, in fact, I printed off the 9th different scavenger hunt for my son tonight (this time, I had some fun placing a bunch of Mario bad guys all across the village for my son to locate)! </div><div><br /></div><div>Now, let's see some of what the village looks like as of today:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVQdxdrNeWhDXAh5NewVLWU27B9h4Si_wPqItNaraWOUSOu0NBJQNDSSx-tBWK76oium5GojQdfosQmvYkTa335jP3Dh-D_I3deeSpYs059JbA0sZUbt6Y0U8I02lBhLd4DuoBTLXFKGtMIkiw9bi3OmCdrxpYIYCKEjBaiOo5puJoHeFHlMkMNSQoCuE/s3711/20231209_233341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2523" data-original-width="3711" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVQdxdrNeWhDXAh5NewVLWU27B9h4Si_wPqItNaraWOUSOu0NBJQNDSSx-tBWK76oium5GojQdfosQmvYkTa335jP3Dh-D_I3deeSpYs059JbA0sZUbt6Y0U8I02lBhLd4DuoBTLXFKGtMIkiw9bi3OmCdrxpYIYCKEjBaiOo5puJoHeFHlMkMNSQoCuE/w640-h436/20231209_233341.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Yeah, I added lights for the first time ever! That's one big 64x64 stud base plate in the front. I used some official LEGO models, some of my own stuff, and some models based on ideas from some third-party books! My son helped me build parts of that layout (though I did all of the wiring since the wires are so tiny and delicate)! Overall, I think it turned out pretty well for a first attempt at lighting up LEGO stuff. I do have enough lights leftover to do another big base plate...the real question is whether or not I'll have the time and energy to put together a second big scene this year!</div>Nachos Grandehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911007368272468591noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9131090077828384917.post-31797116801689149172023-12-12T10:39:00.004-05:002023-12-12T10:41:08.384-05:002023 LEGO City Advent Calendar: Day 12Today marks the final day of the first half of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar. It's not offensive but it's not anything to get overly excited about either. I've been opening my Advent Calendar with my five-year-old son this year and while he enjoyed building the light he immediately moved on to some of the earlier builds from the month to start playing with. As far as ratings go, I oscillate between a 2 and a 3 but I think I'm going to go with a 2/5 (if only LEGO had added a few more of those cone pieces to make the light a few bricks taller).</div><div><br /></div><div><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px;">Overall score this year: </span><b style="background-color: white; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px;">30/40</b><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px;"> thus far.</span> </div></div><div><br /></div><div>Through 1/3 of the Advent Calendar, we are sitting at a decent 75% success rate in terms of my ratings. We've also now discovered all but one or two of the mini builds that's spoiled on the front of the calendar (the minifigures are also spoiled but that's to be expected). </div>Nachos Grandehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911007368272468591noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9131090077828384917.post-15612602164635431312023-12-07T17:41:00.002-05:002023-12-07T17:41:31.472-05:002023 LEGO City Advent Calendar: Day 07We've made it a full week into December! Why can't months like February or March move as quickly as December always seems to go by? Maybe it's because there's no such thing as a February LEGO calendar with a new build every single day for the month. I think I actually prefer it to the snowman, and while maybe that snowman is more deserving of a 4/5, I went 5/5 for that originally and I'm sticking with the 5/5s for the reindeer grade. That's right, this year's LEGO City Advent Calendar has started out with three 5/5 builds in a row - can't ask for more than that (and also, still no minifigures which seems strange but I'm not complaining)! </div></div><div><br /></div><div>Come back tomorrow to see what Day 4 brings us (at least, I hope I'll have a chance to show off tomorrow's build tomorrow...work might be crazy so maybe I'll do another two-for-one post on Tuesday).
