LEGOLAND New York Resort: Theme Park Review

Last month, my wife and I took my three-year-old son to the newly-opened LEGOLAND New York Theme Park and Resort in Goshen, New York. We made a full trip of it by spending two days at the theme park and the night in-between at the LEGOLAND hotel ( an experience which I reviewed here ). So, what did we think of the theme park? Read on to hear all my thoughts. Let's start with what the LEGOLAND park is (and what it is not). LEGOLAND basically bills itself as a theme park for children ages 2 - 12. REVIEW: LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 16

From what I've read online, the LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 16 line of figures wasn't supposed to be released until later this summer. However, the stores near me seem to have gotten their product early - and when there's a dollar to be made you can bet they will make it! It's not often that I have early access to LEGO, so I took advantage of my opportunity and tracked down a full set (with help from my wife) by feeling the packs. And now, I'm ready to post my full review of Series 16! First, the insert that comes with every minifigure. Unlike the Disney Collectible Minifigure set (which had 18 minifigs in it), we are back to the usual 16 figures which I think is more reasonable. Also, like with most of the previous sets we are back to the common - uncommon - rare designation for the various figures. Motorizing the LEGO Crocodile Locomotive!

A few weeks ago, I decided to open my sealed box of LEGO 10277: Crocodile Locomotive. I had been holding onto the set for awhile now because I was conflicted about building it. On the one hand, I have a large LEGO train/city display and I wanted to incorporate a more interesting engine into my layout (the Crocodile Locomotive certainly looked cool on the box images). On the other hand, all of my trains are motorized and the Crocodile Locomotive doesn't come with a motor in the box...and to motorize it with all of the necessary bits and bobs would end up costing nearly as much as the set itself did. I couldn't justify that expense and so the box sat on my shelf - at least until a couple of weeks ago! So what changed my mind? I decided I could work around the motor issue if instead of motorizing the actual set, I could build a motorized "cargo car" that would (hopefully) push the Crocodile Locomotive around the track instead.
