The Problem with FOX LEGO Masters TV Show

I've now watched the first two episodes of the new FOX show LEGO Masters and while I wanted to love the show it's clear it has some major issues.

First and foremost, in my opinion Fox completely missed the mark as to who the main target audience is (or at least what the audience wants).  Rather than focus on the individual "drama" that's a reality trope, FOX should spend more time showing the amazing builds (and techniques).  For an hour long show, it sure feels like we only really get to know a few builds each episode.

Next, having some celebrity hang out for awhile but not actually do anything was a waste of time.  Even more so when it was discovered that the idea was just to do an in-program ad for another TV show.

Finally, even the challenges have been kind of hit or miss already (which is terrible since there have only been two).  The first week where each team had to make a portion of an amusement park was great but the second week where you had to have you build explode in some sort of way?  Stupid.

No one uses real explosives (or a baseball bat for that matter) to destroy their LEGO builds.  I'm not sure what the point of that was, especially since most of the builds didn't even do a good job of incorporating the idea of an explosion.  The challenge for the next episode (use LEGO to complete a "real world" object) might be alright but it doesn't sound interesting to me.

Heck, so far the most interesting part of the show has been the old monorail in the first episode.  Could that be a harbinger of things to come...namely LEGO releasing a new monorail for the current generation?  If that comes true then the show will be worth it...otherwise, I'm not so sure.

Like I said, I wanted to like the show but it's been tough.  I gave the first episode a C+ but the second episode couldn't possibly have been graded higher than an F+.  Whether I stick with the show might hinge on the third week finally delivering something about a C range type show.

Are you watching the show?  If so, what are your thoughts?  I'd love to hear what you think.
