Frog Mario Power-Up Pack - LEGO 71392 - REVIEW

Fairly recently, I reviewed the first LEGO Mario Power-Up pack that I bought for my son (Fire Mario).  That particular set ended up being such a hit that I headed off to eBay to find a second Power-Up pack that looked interesting - and that's where today's set #71392:  Frog Mario comes in!
Someone grabbed this on clearance at WalMart and then sold it to me for less than the clearance tag.

The Frog Mario set contains 11 pieces - basically a pair of pants, a hat (complete with adorable Froggy eyes), a few base plates, a masonry brick, and a pair of printed lily pads.  Considering how few pieces there are in the set, what is there is certainly high quality stuff!

Once you dress Mario in his Frog Mario suit, he makes different sounds than usual whenever you make him jump.  I guess the idea here is that Mario can now jump higher (but since you control the figure yourself, it's all up to your imagination what's "frog height" versus what's "regular height" for Mario).

As for my son, he also loved this set as he did the Fire Mario Power-Up set.  He's definitely enjoyed changing the outfits of Mario - and with the green pants you can make Mario look just like Luigi without having to buy the Luigi Starter pack!

The Bottom Line (out of 10):
Fun:  3
Play Value:  4
Kid Value:  8
Adult Value:  2
Overall:  4

Personally, I found this Power-Up pack to be ever-so-slightly better than the Fire Mario one.  I think it's more fun to make Mario jump higher (with new sound effects) than the tilting action needed for the "fireballs" of the Fire Mario suit.  Truthfully though, I think it's the two printed lily pads that are included that help cement this set's status as the better of the two Power-Up suits that we own to date.

  1. I could see where fans of this line are excited. There seem to be so many different add-ons and power-ups to keep the game interesting.
