Mario's House and Yoshi: LEGO Super Mario 71367 - REVIEW

I'm back today with another LEGO Super Mario set to review!  Today's set is LEGO 71367:  Mario's House and Yoshi.  The set comes with 205 pieces and for suggested ages 6 and up.

Note:  If you click on my Amazon Affiliate Link to make any purchase on Amazon, I get a small amount of cash back.  I'd love to use that cash to acquire future LEGO sets to review here, so your help and support of the site is much appreciated!

Unlike the other LEGO Mario sets that I've reviewed to date, this particular set isn't focused so much on bad guys or crazy obstacles (though there is a single goomba included).  Instead, it's a much more pastoral setting featuring Mario's house, a hammock attached to a tree, and the iconic green version of Yoshi.

We'll start our tour of the 205 piece set with the main structure - Mario's house.  The yellow brick home comes complete with a lovely red sloped roof (and chimney with smoke).  The roof is on hinges so that you can open up the top and allow the Mario figure (sold separately) to access the hidden invincibility star.  I like the little lock piece on the front door as well, though I'm not sure Mario was ever smart enough to lock his doors as he's always having things stolen from him in the games (mostly Peach)!

The Yoshi character looks good in terms of being brick-built but unfortunately there's no way for the Mario figure to actually ride on Yoshi.  Kind of a missed opportunity - but then again I guess Yoshi would end up super oversized if LEGO has made Yoshi rideable!  The little code to scan in front of Yoshi allows Mario to greet Yoshi.

While the house and Yoshi are the titular stars of the set, for my money the real highlight is in a couple of the other included bits.  On a minor note, I love the arrow sign - such great Super Mario World vibes for me!

The real highlight though has to be the hammock that you can make rock a bit by turning the knob on the end.

Even better, when you place the Mario figure in the hammock he falls asleep!

Overall, this set is a fun diversion from most of the other LEGO Mario sets in that it's more "happy play" focused as opposed to "stomp the enemies" focused.

That being said, I personally think it's a better display piece than it is a proper play set since there really isn't all that much to do with this one when all is said and done (the hammock is fun for a moment but how much play value is there in making your character sleep)?!  With only a goomba included as a bad guy, this isn't a set that I'd recommend grabbing unless you wanted it for a display piece!

The Bottom Line (out of 10):
Fun:  2
Play Value:  3
Kid Value:  3
Adult Value:  7
Overall:  4
