Happy 5th day of December. What lurks behind today's Advent Calendar door? Well, read on after my no-spoiler header image!
For the 5th day of the month, we get the train that was hinted strongly at based on the playmat of this year's calendar (there's a printed train track on it, after all).
This year's train is, in a word, huge! A large engine and an equally large passenger car make for a long train - especially since this is supposed to be a child's toy.
The larger size may not be to scale, but it does make for a better train build as compared to many other LEGO trains in previous Advent Calendars. I like that this train actually connects to it's car - and while it won't actually do well on turns it's still a good looking train from a distance.
Overall, this year's LEGO City Advent Calendar has been interesting...though I'm still struggling to see exactly how everything ties together (especially that piano from yesterday). The playmat is ostensibly a house and a barn - and as far as I see it thus far, we haven't found anything for the barn (and yet the barn "area" is larger than the house area). I guess time will tell...still 19 more days to go after all!
Although I don't really like these smaller scale builds... I do think that this train would look cool under a larger Christmas tree. Like the ones that go around the base of trees.
