A Visit to the LEGO Store (January Build-a-Minifigures)!

Last week, my wife and took a two-hour road trip to the mall.  Normally, I'm not a fan of shopping, but this particular mall is nice because it houses a LEGO retail store!  I'm not one to turn down a visit to a LEGO store, even if are just coming off of the holidays and I have plenty of sets already waiting to be built.

In fact, it was because I have a backlog of sets that I decided to take a closer look at the build-a-minifigure stand in the LEGO store.  Normally, I ignore the minifigure spot (it's usually packed with kids) but on this day we got to the store early enough that the entire place was basically empty save for me and three employees.  Thus, I had a chance to root around a bit and I ended up buying a trio of minifigs that I got to assemble.

The build-a-minifigure spot allows you to build three figures with a head, torso, pants, hair/hat, and a single accessory for about $10 US.  Each month (or so), LEGO refreshes the offerings in the build-a-minifigure bins.  This month was a particular jackpot for yours truly as I love classic Castle sets/factions of my youth!

The two castle guys are from the Lion Knights faction, a faction from the time of my childhood play with LEGO!  Unfortunately for me, I didn't even own any of the Lion Knight sets as a kid but I did have this little castle "battle pack" set that featured a lone Lion Knight!

I should still have those old castle guys tucked away in a box somewhere and perhaps I need to dig them out now that I've got three new figures to add to the collection!

Okay, so the cheesehead piece doesn't go with Castle stuff but it was a humorous piece so I used it as the hat for the third minifigure.  The third guy (sans cheese costume) seems like he'd make a good blacksmith for my medieval village (he also has the head with an alternate face on it).

Overall, I'm happy with my little purchase!  That said, I'll come clean and say that I did also buy a couple of larger LEGO sets including a set that struck a different nostalgic chord with me (more on that in a future post, hopefully)!

  1. The cheese head guy is glorious. He's probably pretty upset with the Packers' performance on Sunday.
