2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar REVIEW: Days 20 through 22

Due to family obligations sandwiched around a bus trip to New York City, I didn't have time to open, build, photograph, and/or write about the recent LEGO City Advent Calendar builds.  Today, I'm going to catch myself up, but first our usual spoiler-free image.

Day 20:

Day 20 brought us our expected Christmas tree.  I think LEGO puts a Christmas tree into every single City Advent Calendar so I was expecting a tree to show up at some point.  While I may be slightly tired of trees built the same basic way (wedge plates stacked SNOT-style), I do think the build is appropriately festive and makes perfect sense for an Advent Calendar so I see why LEGO keep going back to the same well year in and year out.  That all said, it's tough to get excited about this one as a veteran LEGO City Advent Calender owner.  My score:  3 out 5

Running Score:  74 / 100

Day 21:

Day 21 produced a nice toy soldier to build (and play with) complete with a sword and hat.  It's an instantly recognizable build with a holiday tie-in, love it.  No complaints at all, an easy 5 out of 5 score!

Running Score:  79/105

Day 22:

Finally, we get back-on-track with a train build (pun very much intended) for Day 22.  My son informed me that this was his favorite build thus far out of the entire calendar, he loved getting to build both the engine and a train car (and who can blame him)?!  It's also nice to have several days in a row with things to actually build in our LEGO calendar, that hasn't happened throughout much of the month!  The train is another great build, I tend to agree with my son that it is one of the best builds of the entire calendar.  Another 5 out of 5 score.

Running Score:  84/110

Only two more days to go, Christmas is nearly here!

Comments

  1. Christmas Tree = A- I think it's a solid build with a nice shape... just a tad bit small.

Toy Soldier = C I thought it was a nutcracker at first, but as soon as I read "toy soldier" I knew I was wrong. It's okay, but a little too simple for my taste.

Train = B Another solid build. Like I tell my students... a B is above average :D
